I used to stay with my mother and siblings in Kisenyi slums; we lost our father at a very tender age, one day our mother took us to our paternal parents place for support and they chased us claiming we don’t belong to their family, so our mother decided to find means of survival for us and we started selling tomatoes and one of my brothers would fetch water for people so that we can all find something to eat. We would also go to people’s houses to find something to do for survival. I tried going to school because I really wanted to study so I can help my mother and siblings live a better life but every time I would go to school they would chase me back home for school fees, so my mother stopped me from going to school since she didn’t have money to pay for my School. Through the Kisenyi outreach programme, I was lucky to find a new family-Amahoro children’s Home because Kisenyi slums wasn’t a good place for a grown up girl like me to stay. when I reached Amahoro, everyone was welcoming and caring that I was asked what I wanted to do in future and I told the Aunties that I wanted to be a fashion designer because I had watched a fashion designer on TV called Sylvia Awori in Uganda who makes a lot of money, so I can one time help my mother, siblings and other people in need. Iam so grateful that I joined Amahoro Children’s Home, It has made me a girl that I feel proud of because Iam now under a tailoring training that is supported by ACCT to become a fashion designer of my dreams. My mother can never thank God enough for Amahoro, for the support, love and care they have given meand I can’t wait to be a qualified fashion Designer in Uganda. May God bless you today and always ACCT.
