From An Old Car To A Decent Home And School : Aisha And Isa's Story

Aisha and Issa were born 6 and 4 years ago to Mr and Mrs SSenyonga. The couple lives in Kisenyi, a suburb in the capital Kampala. The family has struggled to raise their daughter and son since birth. Unemployed without a constant source of income, they would have one meal a day for purpose of survival. Aisha and Isa’s parents would struggle to access clean drinking water; they could not even afford a decent accommodation. They lived in an old car in dire state; the car didn’t not possess any doors, glasses or even windows putting them at risk given that the area is a common ground for criminals. Afraid that their children could be harmed or even loose them to starvation, Aisha’s father contacted local authorities about the possibilities of getting help for the entire family or if possible for his children. The local authorities contacted Amahoro Community Development Initiative an organisation that under one of its projects Amahoro children’s Home rescues, rehabilitates and resettles vulnerable children. Aisha was admitted into Amahoro first and later her brother Isa where the organisation with support from ACCT provides all basic needs.

Like Albert Einstein said ‘The world is a dangerous place not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.’ Aisha and Isa are in school and the organisation provides food for their parents in the Kisenyi outreach days. The organisation is looking at possible and better alternatives of helping the family establish a stable source of income capable of sustaining the entire family. When that is achieved the children will be reunified with their family who pay them a visit on scheduled days.
